[TREE REMOVAL FROM CITY PROPERTY]

URGING ALL CITY AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, AND DEPARTMENTS TO ADOPT NOTICE AND APPEAL PROCEDURES FOR THE REMOVAL OF TREES THAT ARE VISIBLE FROM PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY AND TO SUBMIT REPORTS DESCRIBING METHODS OF COMPLIANCE WITH THIS RESOLUTION TO THE COMMISSION ON THE ENVIRONMENT.

WHEREAS, There a numerous trees visible from the public right-of-way, including streets, sidewalks, and other public places, that are located on property under the jurisdiction of various City agencies, commissions, and departments; and,

WHEREAS, Such trees are an important source of civic pride, provide a visual and aesthetic amenity, buffer urban noises, and help to filter air pollution; and,

WHEREAS, The removal of such trees eliminates an important resource from San Francisco’s urban environment; and,

WHEREAS, Removal of such trees is a great interest to the City and County of San Francisco and its citizens, businesses, and visitors; and,

WHEREAS, Removal of such trees is often performed without notice to and input from the public; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors urges all City agencies, commissions, and departments to adopt notice and appeal procedures for removal of trees that are visible from the public right-of-way on property under the jurisdiction of the respective City agency, commission, or department; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, The Board of Supervisors requests that all such City entities submit reports that describe the methods of compliance with this Resolution to the Commission on the Environment.
