[STREET TREE REMOVAL]

URGING THE PORT, AIRPORT, AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY COMMISSIONS TO ADOPT NOTICE AND APPEAL PROCEDURES FOR THE REMOVAL OF STREET TREES THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THE PROCEDURES APPLICABLE TO CITY AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, AND DEPARTMENTS, WHICH ARE SET FORTH IN PENDING AMENDMENTS TO PUBLIC WORKS CODE SECTION 806.

WHEREAS, Street trees on the public right-of-way in San Francisco Port, Airport, and Redevelopment Agency Commissions’ jurisdiction are an important source of civic pride, provide a visual and aesthetic amenity, buffer urban noise, and help to filter air pollution; and,

WHEREAS, The removal of such street trees eliminates an important resource from San Francisco’s and the San Francisco Airport’s urban environment; and,

WHEREAS, Removal of street trees is a great interest to the City and County of San Francisco and its citizens, businesses, and visitors; and,

WHEREAS, Removal of street trees is often performed without adequate notice to and input from the public; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors urges the Port, Airport, and Redevelopment Agency Commissions, to adopt notice and appeal procedures for street tree removal that are similar to the procedures applicable to City agencies, commissions, and departments, which are set forth in pending amendments to Public Works Code Section 806. Such amendments are incorporated herein by reference and copies are on file with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors in File No. _____________.
