Consensus was not reached for immediate action on several items
discussed in the drafting group.
- No-fare Muni: Funding for existing levels of Muni service needs to be greatly
increased and efficiency of current service improved. To move to a no-fare system
would require another leap in funding and operating efficiency. One proposal is to
pre-pay, with appropriate taxes and assessments, the portion of Muni costs now covered
by fares.
- Sidewalks: Future actions to improve pedestrian ambiance might include widening
sidewalks in residential areas, extending the sidewalk level across roadways as “speed
tables”, and building moving sidewalks between major transit systems that are separated
by more than 60 meters and less than 300 meters.
- Zero-emission vehicles: While zero-emission vehicles will enhance sustainability in the City,
the use of these vehicles will still have some pollution from tires and from fossil-fuel-burning
or nuclear power production.
